Sle Co Race Team Charlotte Report: Dinsmore and Sleegers Best Finish to Date

Paris, ONT, CN (May 8, 2014) - The Sle Co Race Team was looking to rebound from its TORC Primm Valley performance and the trip to Charlotte paid off with its best finishes for both Travis Dinsmore and Jeff Sleegers since the group was formed last year. The PRO-Light division continues to be the largest and most competitive group in the TORC Series and as the season progresses look for the Sle Co racers to continue to move toward the front of the pack.

The Friday morning practice session saw both Dinsmore and Sleegers in the grandstands observing the race lines of their fellow competitor. This strategy was definitely unique, but it allowed the drivers the opportunity to witness the fast way around the .7 mile stadium track without causing any unnecessary wear and tear on the race trucks.

The second practice session saw both Sle Co drivers on the track and when it was time for qualifying, Dinsmore in the #43 Sle Co/Lucas Oil PRO-Light stopped the clocks eleventh fastest out of twenty-two competitors. Sleegers took a conservative approach and his lap time put the #99 Sle Co/ Lucas Oil PRO-light in the back half of the starting grid.

The Friday evening eighteen lap race saw both Sle Co team drivers run a very smooth first half of the race as the real racing took place during the final nine laps. The second half of the race saw several overly aggressive moves by many of the drivers, somehow Dinsmore avoided much of the contact as he began moving up the running order. With just two laps to go it look like a podium finish could be within reach, but full course caution came for an incident that put a truck on its roof right in the middle of the infield. It took additional time to clear the track so the race finished under caution, giving Travis Dinsmore a fifth place finish, a personal best in his PRO career.

While Jeff Sleegers started further back in the field, he too had his best finish of his career as well. The team leader moved up nine positions to finish in twelfth.

The next morning both drivers were very optimistic about their chances in Saturday's Round 4 feature.

If history is an indication, the second race of the weekend is when tempers are short and bumpers are put to the test. The Sunday Round 4 race was no exception. Dinsmore saw his race end on the first lap due to a broken oil pump pulley. Meanwhile Sleegers was caught in the middle of a couple of incidents before a stop in the hot pits on lap eleven ended the night due to a judgement call by race officials.

The weekend ended with a heated discussion with another PRO-Light team as the aggression on the track continued into the hot pit area.

"Friday's results were due to all the hard work building new components, and testing we did with King Shocks along with Roger and Andrew Caddell in the off-season," remarked team manager Greg Dinsmore. "Then to have Saturday end the way it did, we have to realize that a track like Charlotte is really TORC's version of Bristol. Just like Bristol, the racing is exciting, close, and intense. Sometimes you can work your way through everything to the finish, and sometimes that added bit of luck just isn't on your side and you go home wondering, what if?"

The Sle Co Race Team thanks its partners including: Sle-Co, Lucas Oil, JS Pest Control, & Rod End Supply.
